Naturally, it can be used to increase spelling proficiency and enhance student vocabulary. Modifications, such as the use of a dictionary to check spellings before tiles are placed on the board, could also be made for those students requiring them. This application would be a fun and exciting way to help students increase their language proficiency in an ESL classroom.

For the more advanced grammar classes, teachers could set perameters to raise the level of difficulty. For example, a class that has studied adjectives or adverbs could be limited to words that are used as that particular part of speech. Once a game is over, the students could be asked to create sentences with as many words possible generated from the game. Points could be given for having so many sentenes and the correct use of the words.

In other subject areas, students could also be limited to generating words that somehow have something to do with the current topic. For example, in a history class that has just studied the Civil War, students could be limited to words that could somehow be linked to that time period. Students could write justifications for their word choices in a Documents to Go file or in Memos, thus increasing their subject-specific vocabulary.

Wednesday

Amidst the confusion, we have plucked, calculated, given each other cooties, and blogged.
